It was well worth the six year wait to round out 2024 by experiencing Chris Lucas' much acclaimed French dining destination Maison Bâtard at the Paris end of Melbourne and inspired by Montmartre's Hotel Particulier.
The three heritage building-conversion sprawling over four levels comprises an opulent restaurant complete with statement chandelier, oyster bar and works of Claire Fontaine art, a dimly lit late-night salon adorned by red velvet curtains, baby grand piano and cabaret stage and an apéritif-esque rooftop terrace with atrium and greenery.
Coveted dishes prepared in an open kitchen and presented with front of house theatre such as dessert carts, the narrowing down of almost 3000 wines by Sommeliers to the likes of Philippe and a nightcap at Le Club make for an evening to remember.
