We took the scenic route to Neuchâtel in Switzerland today via medieval town Morat otherwise known as Murten.
The reason for the dual names is that the township is near both the French and German speaking areas of Switzerland, hence Morat is French by origin and Murten is German.
It was a case of old meets new when we arrived at Neuchâtel and checked into City Hotel, a stone's throw away from the fortified town.
We wandered around the city that has medieval foundations and is renowned for watch and wine making.
There were decorative remnants including confetti and glitter on alley cobblestones from last week's Fête des Vendanges wine and harvest festival.
Dinner was at Chauffage Compris where we had the pleasure of meeting Elia who hails from Italy, worked at a cattle station in Western Australia's Kimberley region and is a fellow gastronome.
Guided by Elia's recommendations, the local standouts on the menu were Saucisse de Boeuf aux Noisettes or cured beef sausage with hazelnuts and dark horse, Absinthe sorbet.
