Noyers, Burgundy, France.

The scenic route from Semur-en-Auxois to Noyers, Burgundy in France on Tuesday included visiting two locations.

First was Château de Tanlay, an ornate Renaissance castle built during the 16th and 17th centuries.

Second was the town of Chablis nestled on the banks of river Serein and renowned for being a wine-producing area in Burgundy with 4,800 hectares of Chardonnay grape vineyards.

We had a romantic notion of an al fresco lunch by the river at Marguerite, however the wasps had other ideas.

Nevertheless, the smorgasbord of regional delights such as baked choux pastry with Comté gougères, andouillette sausage (best to not ask what is in it) and cheeses made it worth our while.

On arrival at Noyers, we checked in to guest house Côté Serein and were greeted by host Thomas, whose family has lived there for 30 years.

Over a glass of Chablis with Thomas in the courtyard, we learned some interesting facts about the eclectic styling of the guest house including that the suitcase cupboard was sourced from a brocante in Bordeaux and had to be hoisted into the room via the balcony.

Additionally, that Thomas had worked at an Australian bar in the South of France.
