Edging closer to Venice, yesterday we arrived in this cosmopolitan city in the northeast, renowned for its elegant renaissance buildings by 16th-century architect Andrea Palladio.
We checked into hotel Due Mori founded in 1854 and were met by a very hospitable manager who allowed us to park right at the front in an old town full of narrow twists and turns.
A dusk stroll around the cobblestoned streets revealed a historic and cultural richness including art galleries, museums, piazzas and notably Palladio's Teatro Olimpico or outdoor theater.
When travelling particularly through Italy, some of the best dining experiences are those that are authentic such as Righetti in a 17th-century palace and with a small menu of classic Veneto fare.
Primi was spaghetti alle vongole or pasta with clams.
Secondi was bacala alla Vicentina con polenta or salted cod fish with polenta.
Dolci was a local plum cake.
